Final Phase - Clean up of Pool & Yard:

The pool area will be cleaned of debris and prepared for the plastering process.

Pre-Plaster Inspection:

Your pool will be inspected again by the Building Inspector before plastering. The primary concern of the inspector will be the fence that has been installed. The fencing and all gates must be up and operational at this time. All gates must be self-closing and self-latching. The pool cannot be plastered until the fence is completed. Unless your pool company has been contracted to build the fence, it is the owner's responsibility to ensure the fence meets the Building Code requirements and is completed for this inspection. The customer is also responsible for door alarms in the house and any other safety devices required by your county.

Plaster:

In hot weather the pool should be dehydrated by watering heavily 3 times a day for 3 days prior to plastering. If you have selected a colored plaster, you may wish to be present when the first batch of plaster is mixed so you can confirm the color. Charcoal gray plaster is mixed in light, medium, and dark shades. Black is not an option.

Colored plaster does mottle. Proper chemical balances is essential to a healthy plaster. This must continue after your initial startup, either by you or a certified pool technician. Startup includes establishing water hardness, alkalinity, and pH. Chlorine and conditioner will be added by the person maintaining the pool. The pool sweep will be installed on the second visit made by the startup technician. On the day of plastering, and until the pool is filled, no landscaping or other on-site work should take place around the pool area.

Water hoses are needed for filling the pool. The hoses should be as large as possible in diameter and long enough to reach the deep end drain and the end of the hose to be placed in the pool should be covered with a sock or soft material to avoid damaging the plaster. If your water supply is limited, you should discuss making arrangements for the water to be delivered by truck. The water should be directed at the main drain cover at the bottom of the pool.

FACTS:

  • All county fence regulations are different. It is the clients responsibly to install a fence or contract someone to build your fence and it must meet the Building Code.
  • Plaster comes in a variety of colors. Color plaster does mottle.
  • Chemical balances can effect the plaster.
  • While filling the pool, once the water has started, if you turn off the water a permanent ring of dirt stain will be left on the plaster.
